Reframing Deaf Characters in Children's Literature

I've always loved reading books growing up; it was one of the few ways of escaping into a world where there were no communication barriers. However, there was just something missing -- Deaf characters in their natural state.  How many books are out there that project Deaf characters through a cultural lens? This article did a study on picture books with Deaf characters and concluded that "relationships between Deaf characters and other Deaf characters are almost nonexistent" (p. 281).  It validates our reason for producing e-books, not only with Deaf characters, but also available in American Sign Language and written English side by side. We hope our e-books would reframe Deaf people in a positive light.
